A conversational, observational folk-poetry on a sunny October morning in Bournemouth.
Lyric: The Morning After Rain
The rain has finally left the town
The clouds have somewhere else to go
The morning sun is shining down
On streets where yesterday’s rain still shows
The pavement shines, the seagulls cry
The wind is playing with the sea
The restless waves come rolling by
As if they have somewhere to be
And I am walking, taking time
Before the working day begins
The waves are keeping their own rhyme
The autumn sunlight on my skin
Some surfer boys are riding waves
Or waiting for the perfect one
I stand and watch them for a while
Their shadows dancing in the sun
And after all those days of rain
The sun has found this little town
The wind is calling out my name
And I don’t want to turn around
A woman passes with her dog
A cyclist disappears from sight
The pier stands firm against the wind
Its wooden boards still wet from night
The world has washed its face again
The leaves are golden, red and brown
And after all those days of rain
The sun has found this little town
I check the time, I’ve stayed too long
The morning slowly slips away
The sea continues with its song
And I have work to do today
But something stays, I can’t explain
A quiet feeling, warm and plain
Perhaps it’s just the autumn sun
Or watching waves that never end
And still, the morning feels brand new
The wind is wild, the sky is blue
