Great marketers are made, not born. It takes a lot of hard work, self-awareness, and creativity to be truly great at marketing. The best marketers are the ones who can use their knowledge to plan for the future.

But some might say the secret to being a great marketer is to know your customer and their needs. Understanding what do customer want and how can you find it? In their view a great marketer will be able to answer these questions and create a plan for marketing that meets those desires. And they are not completely wrong, but this is more kind of textbook description.

Some younger people may think, it is about social media and internet and knowing how to use it. which is not entirely wrong, but again those are just tools. Knowing how to use a pen doesn’t make you a great writer.

But when you are observing some of the greatest marketer in action, you see it is something more than just that.

The secret, which is actually not a secret, as it has been right in front of us all the time. And probably your grandparents and even parents told you many times…but you did not think about it in this way…, the secret is story.

Yes story. The ability to tell great story.

Communicating through stories has been a big part of human culture since the beginning. There’s something unique about stories that make them more memorable – they create a connection to what you’re saying. Stories have existed for much longer than reading and writing so it’s not surprising they are still important in our modern world today.

Narrative has always been at the core of human society. Stories, myths, and tales have been passed down from generation to generation as a means of remembrance and insight. The secret of the great storyteller is that they are able to balance facts with emotion, reality with imagination and historical facts with fiction.

Brand Stories Matter…

You have to tell your story. stories matter…

Brand story is not just a tagline. It is not just the logo or the colours. It isn’t just your personal story and ‘about’ page, or a sales pitch. A brand story is what sets your brand apart from others – it’s the complete picture of who you are – and who you want to be in future. it is what it makes you unique.

You are unique and it’s important to embrace that. You can’t be like anyone else and that’s not a bad thing. You should know your strengths and come out of your comfort zone.

Copywriters are often overlooked or undervalued, but they are vital to any marketing campaign. The copywriter must know what the client wants to accomplish with their marketing message and then find just the right words for it and put it in a story. Successful brands craft a narrative – getting to know them through their story is what makes you want to engage with them. Good copywriting is all about forging an emotional connection with customers.

Having a good story about your brand is important if you want your customers to understand who you are and why they should invest in your products. Brand story should answer the questions of who, what and why and show the personality of the company so people can get a sense of what kind of person/company they are dealing with.

Humans are motivated by stories. Our brains are hardwired to communicate through narratives. Most common way for us to understand social norms is through stories and lived experiences. These stories inspire in us a sense of what is right or wrong in our lives.

Neuroeconomics studies has shown that our brains release specific hormones when we’re following a storyline. First hormone, Cortisol, helps us focus while the tension builds up. Once tension is resolved, another chemical is released – Oxytocin. Oxytocin is responsible for generating feelings of happiness and belonging. Therefore, when you create a sense of tension and then create a “feel-good” moment in your story, you create a captivating narrative, and people feel connected.

So, if you want to become a great marketer work on your storytelling skill. Keep it simple, let your personality shine through and communicate the higher purpose of your brand.

There are many good books about storytelling, and I am going to include the links to some of them below this article for you however you should know great marketers know how to work with people and read other people’s emotions.
